Picking the Right Liablity Limits When Buying Direct Auto Insurance Online

When looking to buy Direct Auto Insurance online it is very important that you buy the right Car Insurance Policy. When you’re buying Liability for Car Insurance it’s important to understand what this is. Liability Insurance is the car insurance coverage that keeps you from getting sued by the other guy!!! Now a days with all of the companies selling “Cheap Car Insurance” or “low auto insurance” they have to cut the costs somewhere and this is usually where it happens.

There are all kinds of different Liability limits available when buying direct auto insurance but what does it all mean? 25 / 50/ 10 or maybe 100/300/100. Or maybe a CSL (Combined Single Limit) of $500,000. If this is all Greek to you don’t worry it will soon become crystal clear.

OK so you’re trying to get the Cheapest Car Insurance and you’re looking at all of these different options but what does it all mean? OK so in the first example of the 25/50/10 this is the Liability Limit for your car insurance. The first number the 25 stands for $25,000 per person. What this means is that if you get in a car accident and you hurt or kill somebody your insurance company is going to have to pay that person or family $25,000 per person, which was hurt or killed in your accident that you caused. Now the next number the 50 stands for $50,000 per accident. This is the most that your direct auto insurance company is on the hook (will pay for) your accident.

So let’s say for an example you buy your insurance from your new online direct auto insurance company and you get in a car accident and there are 3 people in the other car and they all have serious injuries. So now you think OK each person is going to get $25,000 but the problem is that second number the $50,000 is the cap for the whole car accident claim that is the bodily injury portion.

The final number the 10 stands for a $10,000 property damage limit. This is almost always overlooked when buying direct auto insurance online or even through an agent for that matter. Now when I say property damage I don’t mean your car. Oh no this is for the other guy’s car or his garage or mailbox or whatever else you hit. With the prices of cars now a day’s $10,000 doesn’t go very far. What if you wreck his Mercedes or SUV?

Also the CSL or Combined single limit policy is another type Liability insurance limit that maybe available in your state may have for your car insurance liability limits. What a CSL policy does is take away the individual liability limits. It means it will pay at most a total of whatever that limit is. So if your direct auto insurance policy has a CSL of $300,000, this will be the most your car insurance policy will pay out no matter how many people or what the actual damages are whether it’s a bodily injury claim or a property claim or both

So when looking for insurance for your car consider increasing these limits to as much as you possibly can while still keeping your monthly car insurance bill within your budget. Some of the better limits might be $300,000/300,000/ 300,000 or maybe even $500,000/$500,000/$500,000. This is in no way a recommendation for your personal insurance coverage only your insurance agent or attorney can tell you what’s right for you.

So the next time you’re going to your favorite direct auto insurance company to get an insurance quote for your car insurance coverage consider raising your liability limits and maybe raising your deductibles to pay for it!! This way you can have the cheapest car insurance as possible yet you won’t have a cheap policy.
